British Prime Minister Teresa May will hope for positive Brexit talks in Gothenburg this Friday 17th, as she prepares to be pressed by European Union leaders to settle the UK exit bill enabling the progression necessary for post-Brexit trade negotiation.
Theresa May will meet the President of the European Council Donald Tusk, ahead of the crunch summit in December, with Tusk looking for sufficient progress to reach ‘phase 2’ of negotiations.
A key stumbling block remains the exit bill, with Brexit Secretary David Davis confirming yesterday at the economic conference in Berlin, that they are still a few weeks away from agreeing how much Britain will pay on the divorce settlement. May has disputed claims that they were ready to raise the cash offer by another 20 billion succumbing to EU
demands.
Davis was keen to emphasise the importance of trade, warning the EU not to allow short-term political interests to hinder long-term economic gains. As Davis put it “putting politics above prosperity is never a smart choice.”
